About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen played out a 3-3 draw on Saturday, 7 March 2026. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing resilience and attacking flair. The result was somewhat unexpected given Leverkusen's recent form, as they were considered slight favorites coming into the game. The match began with Freiburg taking the lead in the 34th minute through Vincenzo Grifo (GAP +0.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse. Just three minutes later, Bayer Leverkusen responded with Christian Kofane (GAP +2.5%) finding the net to level the score. Freiburg regained the lead before halftime when Yuito Suzuki (GAP -0.9%) scored in the 43rd minute. However, Alex Grimaldo (GAP +5.1%) pulled one back for Leverkusen just before the break, making it 2-2 at halftime. The second half saw Martin Terrier (GAP -0.6%) put Leverkusen ahead in the 52nd minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Freiburg, however, refused to back down and found an equalizer in the 86th minute through Matthias Ginter (GAP +1.3%), ensuring the points were shared. Tactically, both teams made several changes. SC Freiburg's manager opted for four substitutions, bringing in Jordy Makengo Basambundu, Derry Scherhant, Cyriaque Irié, and Lucas Höler to inject fresh energy into the side. Bayer Leverkusen's head coach also made four changes, introducing Montrell Amare Culbreath, Malik Tillman, Tim Oermann, and Exequiel Palacios, aiming to maintain their attacking momentum. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted Alex Grimaldo's significant impact for Leverkusen, while Matthias Ginter's late goal was crucial for Freiburg. The match was a testament to both teams' attacking prowess and determination. This draw leaves SC Freiburg in a stable mid-table position, while Bayer Leverkusen remains in contention for European spots. Both teams will look to build on this performance as they approach the final stretch of the Bundesliga season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
